The Falcons went on the road to Old Mill this week to play a much anticipated match up in front of Homecoming crowds. At halftime, the Patriots seemed comfortable with a 7-0 lead, and had proved a defensive force to be reckoned with, holding the Falcons to only 34 yards. The Patriots also had a powerful offense led by QB Kelian Stevens, who was a threat both on the ground and in the air. The Falcons came back with a plan in the third quarter, and called on senior Chris Hunt who answered with a 67 yard TD pass from QB Pat Morrison to get the Falcons back in the game. Pat Bateman kicked the extra point to make it 7-7. The momentum seemed to shift when on the Patriots next possession, Dax Kettler stripped the ball and recovered a fumble to put the ball back in the hands of Morrison, who was 5-7-1 for 184 yards and 2 TD's against Old Mill. Morrison rushed the ball twice, followed with 2 carries by Garret Hall- putting the Falcons on the 5 yd line. Chris Hunt did it again, leaping over a few Patriot defenders for the TD, and giving the Falcons a 14-7 lead. Old Mill's next drive was broken up by Brent Sanders at the Falcon 40. Sanders teamed up with Garret Hall to gain some yards on the ground attack. At 4th down and 7, Severna Park goes for it with a pass to Pat Mercer which put the Falcons at 1st and goal. Severna Park seemed to stall after backing up with a 15 yd. penalty, and a Patriot sack. Enter Chris Hunt again at 4th down and 28 where he proved the 3rd time was a charm with another TD catch, putting the Falcons ahead for good. Old Mill didn't go quietly- they answered back with a 99 yard kickoff return to keep the Falcons on their toes going into the final minutes of the 4th quarter. Next up Hunt's sleeve was a recovery of the Patriots onside kick, giving the Falcons a comfortable exit. Morrison took a knee to run out the clock and extend the Severna Park county win streak to 18. The season has lots more excitement in store, with another tough game on the road against Annapolis in week seven. Come cheer them on as the Falcons look to defend their title in 2006!
