For the first time in a 3 year playoff run, Severna Park clinched a round one win by shutting out the North Harford Hawks and will be advancing to round two next week against River Hill. The Hawks proved hard to contain, but defense held tough when it counted keeping Harford safely on the scoreless side of the goal line. After missing a field goal, Severna Park held tough and forced N. Harford to punt on the 15. Shortly after, Greg Zingler threw an 85 yard TD pass reception to Chris Hunt, followed with an extra point kick by Steve Pecevich, putting the Falcons ahead 7-0. North Harford responded with a drive deep into Falcon territory, and at the end of the 2nd quarter with only 8 seconds left they were poised on the 1 yard line to even up the score. Falcon defense held tough and the Hawks remained scoreless, giving the Falcons all the momentum they needed to put away the win. Coming into 3rd quarter, Porter Johnson and Tyler Handley were both out with injuries, and Joe Farrell found his way to an interception, returning it 26 yards for another Falcon score. Tommy Bryant then recovered a Hawk fumble, and Severna Park mounted a 13 play, 75 yard drive, which began with an awesome Dave Horn 26 yard reception, Tom Massie capped off the drive with a Park TD on a 3 yard run safely putting the game out of reach. The entire Falcon defense deserves accolades, with sacks by Chase Kettler and Lewis Spadaro, as well as an awesome all team performance. Chris Hunt was credited with 3 receptions for 115 yards. The Falcons will be back on their home turf next Saturday and will be hosting another team of Hawks- this time from River Hill for a shot at Round two in the semi-finals. Come out and cheer them on!
